Kerala Budget Envisions IT Infrastructure Growth

Kerala Finance Minister Dr. T M Thomas Isaac, in his budget for the 20-21 fiscal, has touched upon the developments in Kerala’s IT sector. He has also mentioned about the State Government’s decision to encourage private companies to establish their own campuses in Kerala. The government’s vision is to increase the total space in the existing IT Parks to 245 lakh sq.ft. in 2021 and generate 85,000 more jobs in IT/IT-related fields by that time. The government is also of the view that IT Parks have stabilised and should be considering self-sustained growth from now onwards.

The US-based Revyrie Global has opened their new development centre at Thejaswini building at Technopark recently. California-based IT firm Way.com has also begun its operations from Technopark with over 50 employees. I understand that the company will be hiring 200 employees by the end of this year. Similarly, HTIC Global started their operations at Trans Asia Cyber Park on Infopark Phase 2 campus and the facility can accommodate 300 people. BYJU’S – The Learning App has also set up a 200-seater facility at Thapasya building on Infopark Phase 1 campus for undertaking the company’s back-office functions. I wish all success to the management as well as employees of all the companies in their endeavours.
In another development, Pinarayi Vijayan, State Chief Minister, inaugurated Kerala Police Cyberdome at Infopark Kochi. Meanwhile, Cyberdome Kozhikode Summit 2020 was held at Cyberpark Kozhikode giving an opportunity for the IT professionals to interact with leading cybersecurity experts and seek ways to explore association with the Cyberdome to ensure cybersecurity.
