This will go up to two lakh once the IT space is fully occupied for the ongoing constructions.” State Finance Minister Dr. T M Thomas Isaac, while presenting the State Budget 2019-20 earlier this month, made the statement after referring to the investments happening in Kerala’s IT sector, right from Nissan Digital Hub to the ongoing consultations with tech giants like Fujitsu and Hitachi. Yes, as the Minister rightly pointed out, we have moved miles ahead and are on the right track.

The 2019-20 budget has allocated an amount of Rs. 84 crore for Technopark Trivandrum and Rs. 67 crore for Infopark Kochi. While Cyberpark Kozhikode will get Rs. 23 crore in the next fiscal, there is an additional allocation of Rs. 10 crore for constructing a Ladies Hostel and Fitness Centre at Infopark, Cherthala.

A few days before the State Budget, Teranet, a leading provider of registry and workflow solutions for the Canadian Financial Services and Real Estate markets, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kerala IT, to set up a Centre of Development at Technopark. The 10,000-sq.ft. facility is expected to be operational by April 2019.

Four new companies started their operations at Cyberpark – Zoondia set up its Smart Business Centre, Ayur Medicity has established their new office for its IT division, Turnipseed Accounting commenced operations of its new branch and Techblaster inaugurated its new office. In Technopark Phase III, 3MBK Technologies started their new office. Join me in welcoming all of them.

P H Kurian IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary (Revenue & Disaster Management, Environment) retired from office on January 31, 2019. He has been instrumental in promoting innovative startups and drafting the first Startup Policy for the State.
