The city of Surat in the State of Gujarat is one of the best planned cities in India along with six major cities under the Smart Cities Mission. The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has bagged three awards from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the Best Integrated Mass Transit Project, Best Intelligent Public Transport Services and Commendable City in Urban Transport Initiative. And now for the Kerala connection: it is a company from the State – ARS Traffic & Transport Technology (T&TT) India, a subsidiary of ARS Traffic & Transport Technology BV from The Netherlands, headquartered at Technopark, that is playing a key role in the expansion of Surat’s transport systems.
As part of the internally coded ‘Vision Gujarat’, ARS T&TT India is working with SMC to implement ‘Integrated Transit Management System’ [ITMS] and ‘Integrated Traffic Control System’ (ITCS) contracts under the Smart City program.
ITMS, now under ARS T&TT, manages all operations pertaining to the public transit bus network in Surat which includes city and specialised buses under the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) scheme. The scope of the project includes scheduling, tracking, monitoring and optimisation of bus operations in terms of cost/convenience, depot management and public information services through displays, apps and websites. ITCS, currently under implementation, will bring state-of-the-art traffic management capabilities to the city of Surat.
Continuing to work on this vision, during the ninth edition of Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January 2019, Ajay Bhadoo IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Vadodara and Jan Linssen, CEO, ARS T&TT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat with the objective of making products and solutions from ARS T&TT available to the city. Through this MoU, ARS will be involved in smart traffic developments executed in Vadodara as part of the Smart City initiative.
“ARS India has developed and delivered several international grade mobility solutions to the western world over these 18 years. Our India clients have the benefit of using international grade solutions made by us, with customisations and expert assistance from local and international teams. ARS is a prominent smart mobility solutions provider for Smart Cities, and we are spreading this experience across the globe,” said Manesh V S, Managing Director, ARS T&TT India.
ARS T&TT started operations in India from Technopark in January 2001 as a total solutions provider of intelligent mobility systems for the transportation market. The company with offices across India, provides consultancy, design, development, operation and services to its clients under its nine business verticals.
Being an international market leader in Intelligent Transport Systems, the technical divisions of ARS T&TT in Thiruvananthapuram and Pune have also been providing traffic and transport technology solutions to organisations in EU nations.
