Let Techies Lead in Rebuilding Kerala

“You have proved to the world that when people come together, a lot of things can be done. You all have created history.” I am sure these words of Dr. K Vasuki IAS, District Collector, Thiruvananthapuram will echo in our minds for a long time.

The way in which the techies responded when the State was ravaged by floods has revealed the humane face of the Kerala IT fraternity. From GTech to Prathidhwani, various forums played a commendable role in facilitating rescue missions, distributing materials and carrying out post-flood relief works.

But the job is only half done. Now all of us have to actively take part in the State Government’s initiative to #RebuildKerala. This is an opportunity to redo Kerala. Let’s break the shackles of the existing system and create a ‘New Kerala.’ During the function held at Technopark to felicitate techies who have taken part in the relief and rehabilitation activities, I suggested that our techie friends take up the task of digitalising academic certificates for people who have lost their valuable documents in the floods. Likewise, we can think of plenty of ways in which we can effectively contribute towards bringing their lives back to normal or making it even better.

While on this, we had some significant developments happening across all the IT Parks. The Federal Bank Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Infopark Kochi for taking on lease 12,573-sq.ft. of space at Thapasya building to carry out the back-end operations of the Bank.

Let me congratulate Servntire Global, the Technopark-based Blockchain solutions company, which has been acquired by the California-based NetObjex Inc. This is the first time that a company in the Blockchain segment in India has been acquired by a foreign firm. Servntire Global was incubated by Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM).

At Infopark Kochi, Spawoz Technologies opened its new office space at Vismaya building. CLAP Research also launched its operations at Nila building in Technopark. Kennedys Cognitive Computing, a leading global law firm, also set up shop at Chandragiri building in Technopark Phase 1. Shell Square Software has started working from its new space at Periyar building in Technopark. Calicut Forum for Information Technology (CAFIT) has launched a new job portal – jobs.cafit.org.in – a one-stop-shop for vacancies in Kozhikode-based tech companies.

And, there is some big news coming in terms of entry of multinational companies into Kerala. Let’s hope for the best!
