It’s Happening Days for Kerala’s IT Sector

Well begun is half done, thus goes the saying. With all stakeholders hailing it as a step in the right direction, the #FUTURE Global Digital Summit, a first-of-its-kind event organised successfully by the Government of Kerala, has given a fresh impetus to the State’s journey towards a knowledge-driven future. It was indeed a watershed moment and gave the IT community deep insights into the ways of competing effectively in a digital world.

While Red Hat, a leading provider of open source solutions, has agreed to work in collaboration with International Centre for Free and Open Source Software (ICFOSS), Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) and ICT Academy of Kerala, the Government of Kerala has decided to consider making use of the expertise of Byju Raveendran, Founder and CEO of BYJU’s learning app, in the State’s education sector. As Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan pointed out, it is highly imperative to fully utilise the digital opportunities and potential for the benefit of the common man. We are working to ensure that the outcomes of the event are taken to the logical culmination of concretising them.

The ripples created by #FUTURE gained further momentum with Huddle Kerala, a mega startup conclave organised by KSUM in association with Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IAMAI Startup Foundation in Thiruvananthapuram. A promising outcome of the event has been that global IT networking major Cisco is setting up an incubator for startups to nurture and develop ideas in the Internet of Things (IoT) domain at the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K), in partnership with the NASSCOM Foundation. Another MoU for establishing the Cisco Networking Academy programme in Kerala through the ICT Academy of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram, was also signed.

Apart from these, I am also delighted to inform you that Kott Software, part of the Kottukapally group, Pala, one of the oldest business groups in Kerala, inaugurated its new business unit and software centre of excellence at Jyothirmaya IT Building, Infopark. The new facility will support product development for global clients and R&D on emerging technologies.
