Kozhikode: The first building of Cyberpark, Sahya, a state-of-the-art 2.88 lakh sq.ft. facility, was inaugurated by Pinarayi Vijayan, Kerala Chief Minister, here the other day.

Speaking on the occasion, Pinarayi Vijayan said the Sahya complex will host an incubator centre with all modern training facilities for the development of advanced mobile applications. The incubator having a dedicated space of 10,000 sq.ft. will be set up by the industry body Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI),

“The incubator will help make Kozhikode the hub for mobile application development,” the Chief Minister said.

Technical experts from IT majors like Google, Paytm and Facebook would provide training to startups in the field in mobile app development at the incubator facility set up in association with Kerala Startup Mission.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government would set up at least 1000 Wi-Fi hotspots in public places every year as part of its ambitious K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network) project. The Government’s was planning to set up such public Wi-FI hotspots in all IT parks as well. Kozhikode Cyberpark would be the first to get the facility shortly, he added.

Stating that the new IT building, which would create 2500 direct and 7500 indirect employment opportunities, would help Malabar emerge as an IT destination, the Chief Minister added that the State Government was moving ahead with steps to set up IT parks in Kannur and Kasaragod.

Speaking at the function, Hrishikesh Nair, CEO, Kerala IT Parks said one of Kerala Government’s major thrust areas in IT is to promote Kozhikode as the next IT destination. For us, the priority is to make this first IT building fully occupational. ‘’We are receiving a lot of enquiries from companies in the region and also from firms based in the GCC countries for space in Cyberpark. Basic facilities like robust infrastructure, excellent digital connectivity, in-house power distribution, 100 per cent power backup and an eco-friendly environment are all in place for companies to start operations,” he said.

T P Ramakrishnan, Excise and Labour Minister, presided over the function. MLAs P T A Rahim, A Pradeep Kumar and M K Muneer; Thottathil Raveendran, Kozhikode Mayor and M Sivasankar IAS, Principal Secretary IT also spoke on the occasion.
