Thiruvananthapuram: The 2016 Range Rover Evoque, the updated compact and stylish sport utility vehicle (SUV) from Jaguar Land Rover India Limited (JLRIL), has hit the Indian roads with a bang. Given the extraordinary success of the original Evoque, Land Rover has not gone for any major makeover but made a few cosmetic and mechanical changes to enhance the style and luxury appeal of the premium crossover. At the same time, the new Range Rover Evoque comes loaded with class-defining features such as Gesture Tailgate function, Head Up Display, Surround Camera System, 17 Speakers, 825 Watts Meridian Surround Sound System, Rear Seat Entertainment and Nine-Speed Automatic Transmission, among others.
Called Powered Gesture Tailgate, the feature enables one to load baggage in the boot with ease. If both of your hands are occupied with carry bags and baggage, you just have to wave your foot under the rear of the vehicle and the tailgate opens on its own. You need not have to physically touch either the vehicle or the remote key. It also closes automatically with a wave of your foot so that you need not have to put the bags on the ground to shut the gate.
The updated luxury SUV is equipped with a 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine (all-aluminium Ingenium TD4) that delivers 140 kW at 3,500 rpm with a maximum torque of 420 Nm at 1,750 rpm. Fitted with nine-speed automatic gearbox, the 4WD SUV has the new All-Terrain Progress Control, like larger Range Rovers, which allows the driver to set a low and fixed speed, essential while traversing a rough terrain, so that he can just concentrate on choosing the path. Besides, there are safety features like Lane Keeping Assist, Attention Assist and Autonomous Emergency Braking. At the front, the new Evoque has a slightly reshaped bumper, a pair of larger air intakes, new grille with a fine mesh design, full-LED adaptive headlamps and slim LED fog lamps. The changes at the back include a new tailgate spoiler that comes with a wider LED third brake light. On the inside, there are new seats, 8-inch InControl touchscreen and altered dashboard and doors. The front seats are eight-way power-adjustable with the option of having 14-way seats with optional massagers.
The advanced integrated laser Head-Up Display (HUD) projects essential information like vehicle speed, cruise-control information, gear position and shift indicator, satellite-navigation instructions and traffic-sign recognition on a small area on the windscreen using a new laser holographic technique.
During the face-lifted SUV’s recent launch in Mumbai, Rohit Suri, President, JLRIL said: “Over the years, the response to the Range Rover Evoque has been phenomenal across the world and India has been no exception. With its striking lines, muscular shoulder and tapered roof, the 2016 Range Rover Evoque sets itself apart from its contemporaries and is loved by the young at heart. The fabulous design, coupled with class-leading technology and luxury features make the 2016 Range Rover Evoque an unbeatable choice.”
